Sémaphore Festival, Brittany

A sparkling little gem of a festival in March in Moëlan-sur-Mer on the undulating coast of Finistère.

In 2018 I was one of the invited poets. The festival theme was the texts of Leo Ferré and my contribution was an imagining of the meeting that was scheduled to take place – but didn’t in this universe – between Ferré and Jimi Hendrix at a recording studio in New York City.

This year, 2019, I am again one of the invited poets. The theme this year is Bourvil, a figure well known to French audiences but largely unknown outside France. Andre Bourvil was a film actor, singer, music hall star and trumpet player whose career spanned the 40s, 50s and 60s until his death nearly 50 years ago. I will be performing a number of pieces, a couple of new versions of his songs and some other spoken word texts based on his life and on his artistic spirit. You can find details of the festival and the dates in the ‘Dates” pages of this site.
