Written in response to Aung Sang Suu Kyi’s refusal to halt, speak out against or even admit to the slaughter of Rohingya Muslims by Buddhist private armies and Burmese soldiers.
Jasmine blossom
gossamer skin,
a feast for the eyes,
Nobel Peace Prize winner,
toast of the biddable west,
poster girl for liberal democracy
ignoring the hypocrisy
as soldiers of Buddha
armed and hooded
scour and scorch and scarify
cleanse and purify the land
of aliens and unbelievers.
Once a sanctified bird in a cage,
Aung Sang you sang for us all.
You used to turn the other cheek.
Now you just turn a blind eye.
